Fields of Cooperation
Bilateral relations between Georgia and the Slovak Republic, as well as cooperation within international organizations, have been dynamically developing.
8 international treaties and several agreements on the level of ministries, form the legal basis for fruitful cooperation in the areas of avoidance of double taxation, culture, defence and short-stay visa waiver for holders of service passports and other.
In the Medium-Term Strategy for Development Cooperation of the Slovak Republic (SlovakAid) for 2014-2018, Georgia, as a country of the Eastern Partnership, is among the priorities (project country) to get Slovak assistance. Programmes and projects carried out in Georgia under SlovakAid, contribut to strengthening democracy, supporting reforms and sharing Slovak experience in the process of European integration and transformation of Georgia.
Cultural relations between the countries have been intensifying and various cultural events take place on regular bases.
Cooperation between educational institutions of Georgia and Slovakia is implemented under certain memorandums signed by the parties. The books of Georgian authors are represented at the main library of Comenius University in Bratislava, where corner of the Georgian books was established in 2012. In 2014, Georgian books were transmitted to the above library.
Government of the Slovak Republic annually offers scholarships to Georgian students for master and PhD level studies.
Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups exist at the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Since 1968, Ambrolauri municipality has been twinned with Racha municipality of Bratislava.
