Relations between Georgia and the Slovak Republic  

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Slovak Republic were established on January 1, 1993.

Embassy of Georgia to the Slovak Republic opened in 2006.

Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Georgia opened in 2014.

Fields of Cooperation

Bilateral relations between Georgia and the Slovak Republic as well as cooperation within international organisations have been developing dynamically.

Up to 10 international treaties and several inter-agency agreements form the legal basis for fruitful cooperation in the areas of economy, culture, defence, etc.

Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups are functioning in the legislative bodies of both countries. 

Slovakia is assisting Georgia actively in the framework of the Development Cooperation programe (“Slovak Aid”). Slovak assistance is aimed at supporting reforms and sharing Slovak experience in Georgia’s European integration and democratic transformation processes.

Cultural relations between the two countries have been intensifying and various cultural events take place on a regular basis. 

Cooperation between higher educational institutions of Georgia and Slovakia is developing under bilateral memoranda as well as the joint international projects. Government of the Slovak Republic offers scholarships to Georgian students annually for Master and PhD studies.

The books of various Georgian authors are represented at the main library of Comenius University in Bratislava, where corner of the Georgian books was established in 2012.

Since 1968 Ambrolauri municipality has been twinned with Racha municipality of Bratislava.
